Agreed, some are simple swaps, some are not. You have to do the research, which is why he is here. You make some very valid points, I just did not want him to think it was lost if catalogs or HD said it can't be done.

I put deuce triple trees on my 2003 fxdl with softail standard lower legs that I powder coated, the main thing you will have to do is cut or grind off the stop on your frame because the lower tree on the deuce hits it and you will have to do some grinding on the stops on the trees so you can get your turning radious my sig pic is with the deuce trees and the trees do have I think 3 degrees in them

exactly what I was going to point out.... To the OP J&P has a nice variety of triple trees for a wideglide that look real good, don't cost any more than stock trees would and have stops for your current setup. Check out their selection at their website. You can get black, chrome, polished, with or without rake. The deuce lowers have a specific axle for them and of course as stated before, your wheel will need to be change to a wide glide wheel or you will need to get a spacer for your front brake disc, and axle spacers to adapt the wheel to the front end. Also need to think about a fender as well.

Agreed, you could find trees similar to the Deuce trees that are made for the Dyna frame. It's a lot of grinding to make Softail trees fit the Dyna, I wouldn't have performed all the work if there were aftermarket FL trees available but sadly there aren't any.

You should not use later model (1986 (?) ~ Current FL trees as they have a 4 1/2* rake in them and the forks are behind the stem. Yes they would work but these trees would make your Dyna handle like a real slug. Do the math by downloading my Rake & Trail calculator prior to doing the doing.

I have one set left of a set of billet aluminum trees made for a custom bike using 41mm trees & a wide glide rim (6.32") from flange to flange. You use a internal fork stop (I have them) and the steering stem is a blind hole so nothing shows up top. They can be chomed but they are polished currently. There is no mounting brackets like a FL or Softail Heritage. Steering stem is 2.23" I think but I would need to look. This will put your trail around 4.75" with a stock wheel but you would need to figure it out for yourself.

Howard:

Rick was referring to FLST vice FLHR front end ... as you correctly point out, the late-style Road King front end will not work, but the Heritage front end will.

Exactly! I should have been more specific in my post. Boy if you think the FLST front end didn't turn much before the mods could you imagine a Road king setup on a dyna? You would have to notch the tank to get it to turn! It's the goofiest looking setup with the neck out front leading the fork tubes.

generally the softail forks are longer than the fxd. i put a softail front end on my fxd,but i had to install a 5 degree triple tree to offset the length of the forks. other than that it will work just fine. if the prices are right just go and buy you a 5 degree raked triple tree. i got mine on ebay for less than $100. Good luck.

I ride a 50 Panhead with an original Wishbone frame. I want to replace the basically useless front drum brake with a single disc front end. Anyone have any words of wisdom? My front end has had the lower legs shaved so I had to adapt a shorty fender to it. The chrome on the tubes is VERY tired to the point of having a lot of tiny pits in it so the seals in the lower legs leak no matter what. The Chrome on my trees isn't BAD, but I think that with new upper and lower legs it'd be rather obvious that the trees were "old" chrome.
Thanks...
