shifting speeds
hi guys got a new 06 wide glide only 700 miles on it my question is what speed do the majority of you shift if i take the bike up to 30 and shift into 3rd the bike will vibrate untill i reach 40 then smothes right out and if at 40 i shift to 4th the bike will vibrate till i reach 50 am i shifting at too low of a speed thanks for any replys
Hi Frank,
Actually it's a little bit of trial and error.......When I ride I shift based on how the engine sounds.......You don't want to "lug" a V-twin, as it's really bad for them![&:] You'll see alot of folks do that as they like the sound, but twin's are happier at higher RPM's. When you are at 40 and roll on the throttle if you feel her shake, downshift and all is well....she'll smooth right back out, and after a while you'll know just by sound/feel/experience when to shift, and where to keep the engine happy in relation to speeds/and gear used.

Seems to me that it doesn't like 45mph....no matter if your in 3rd or 4th....Also, I don't think you shoudl shift into 6th until about 80-85mph.... Seems like when I shift in to 6th at 75mph it lugs....
