i dont think its that serious my big question was b/c of the warranty i didint want to get screwd b/c i never did my big services at the dealer and they then try to tell me something is not covered

Just keep records of when you service it and what you did. This is for more than warranty, it will also help to sell the bike or trade it in. You will likely have better luck selling it and for a little more if you can show on paper with receipts that it has been properly cared for.

My advice is to take it to the dealer until your warranty runs out, after that do it yourself or take it to and indy. If something does go wrong within the warranty period it is nice to have the record that only certified, "certified crooks" worked on your ride. Once that warranty runs out save yourself not only money, but the frustration that goes with working with the stealer.

Suoergo, I might agree with you if I would only need one service a year. I put on 15 to 20 thousand miles a year which would be 3 to 4 services a year times the two year warranty period. That's a lot of cash to waste at the stealership.

Am I being to critical because this was a truly unusual problem I had with the filter or would you take your bike to another dealer?

A used Harley... less than 2 years old, regardless of mileage... would still be under warranty if there were records to show that it was properly maintained per the manufacturer's specifications.
The records can be private owner records or dealer records.
But if… the previous owner did not transfer any private maintenance records, and if… the dealer does not have maintenance records... then this bike is most likely not under warranty.

In this instance the dealer is not needed for the routine maintenance of a bike that is either... very near the end of its warranty period, or... not under warranty at all.
The dealer may already know this, thus the half hearted, derelict and just plain shoddy workmanship.

Believe me... in the future you will never need any dealer who conducts 'a very good look-over' by 'just shining a flashlight up the opening'.
If any one thinks so, then maybe... some one is shining a flashlight up their opening.
