I think it would be easier for you to buy a Street Bob....took me 15 minutes....2 in. lift..no tank draining..no sig relocation..no busted tubes either...
for the turn signal relocation kit.. check out the under 50 thread... I got a tip from there using the bracket that the throttle side turn signal already uses... just buy one more for the other light.. and connect to the lower triple tree... it looks awesome... and it hugs the triple tree... not the nasty turn sig kit that harley sells where the lights stick out like 3 inches from the forks. Just an idea.. and it is really easy to install.. no probs guaranteed.
The rubber trim that goes under the console should cost less than about $15 at the stealer if they have it in stock ... could probably be gotten for less than $10 through Zanotti or Chicago HD online, but shipping would probably eat up the cost savings ....
The pre-'06 FXDs have the 'service loop' of excess wiring harness under the seat ... if you have any trouble pulling a little extra wire out of the backbone, remove the seat and you might need to cut a zip tie that holds the loop to the back of the frame crossmember just forward of the rear fender ....
Ok I removed the rubber trim, no problem. will head to HARLEY hopefully it will be in stock. also will add some length to the overflow tube will also rotate my turn signals(for now)id rather them on the forks.
ok thanks everyone. i should be all set for my first Mods.
stay tuned for any problems-
thanks-

Glad to see your not a giver-upper bud! That bit of chrome, if it was me, just peel it off with my fingers, carefully try to get the rust off without causeing collateral damage ie penetrating oil and a rag, then forget it or try to protect with some heat resistant paint. But that spot shouldn't come back often with regular use. Once a year type deal. IMO Otherwise the only way to fix chrome is to re-chrome.
