Looking real good for me to pick up a nice 07 Street Bob Saturday. I love most of the things about the bike except the laced wheels - just not into all that cleaning. I want to swap them out the for cast wheels used on Street Glides and some Lowriders.
So what year wheels do I need to look for? And from which models? SB is a single disc front, so I'm assuming the FatBoy (for example) won't swap directly. What else do I need to know?
Which are more valuable - the laces or the cast? In a trade situation should I look for an even trade or should I get the cast plus a few bucks? Assume tires aren't in the mix - we each keep our own rubber.
Here's what the J&P Big Book says:
2000-03 Dyna have 3/4" front axle, 2004-07 Dyna have 1" front axle (except 2004-05FXDWG), 2000-05 Dyna have 3/4" rear axle, 2006-07 Dyna have 1" rear axle. 2000-05 FXDWG have 3/4" front and rear axles, 2006-07 FXDWG have 1" front and rear axles. All 2008-09 HD models have 25mm front and rear axles except 2009 FLSTSB front which is 3/4".
I didn't know all this when I decided to put Fat Boy wheels on my '07 Bob and I bought '08 FB wheels and they are 25mm. I changed the bearings on the rear wheel and had the necessary machine work done. I still haven't installed the FB front wheel.
Good Luck!
