After much planning to buy a 2010 Black Denim Streetbob, I found a great deal on a 2006 vivid black Street Bob and have bought it (I know, useless without pics, but I haven't even picked it up yet). I want to get on with ordering the stuff I want for it but have lots of questions as this is my first Harley and I really don't know all that much about them yet. I am going to order some 12" t-bars from WestCoast t-bars. They do not come with bolts or bushings, will the bolts i have fit? I have heard that you should upgrade to a new urethane bushing, which ones? and lastly, they are 1 and 1/4 ", stepped down to 1", will this work with the stock controls or is there anything else I need to consider. Hope you don't mind the simple questions as there will be lots more coming! Its fun saving money, only to blow it right away making the bike the way you want it.
Stock controls are 1", so no probem there. I had t-bars for about three months and went back to apes. I would recommend going to a local dealer and sitting on bikes with mods you want to do before spending money. Even see about a test ride. Like I said I am on my fourth set of bars, I have learned from my past mistakes and try before buying. Just my .02.
when i got my bob it came down to whether i want apes or i want tall rise t-bars.
i went with apes because i love how they look but changed the top tree to keep my options open down the line.
i think the tall t-bars look great on the bobs.
your controls will be fine, as they are made for 1" bars and your bars will step down to 1" at the control area.
i'd upgrade both bolts and bushings for the bars, just stop into any indy shop or HD dealer (gona be more money there, guaranteed) and tell them what you need.
Thanks for the quick replies. I will replace both the bolts and bushings toastman. Streetbob '08 thanks for the suggestions on trying before you buy, but at this time I really am after the look and will sacrifice comfort to get it, I figure I am just barely at an age where I can still get away with it and may as well before its too late However, I am hoping I will find it to be comfortable and will hold onto the apes just in case.
