Default advice for Intiminator

I know this has been done alot on this site, but

My new intiminators and 10W amsoil have been sitting on my table for about a week and a half waiting for me to install. I have read most of the threads on the subject and Muds install write-up (great info).

I have never disassembled front forks before and am still alittle hesitate.
I am fairly handy with a wreck, have service manaul, do all maintnance on bike at the house.

Is this pretty simple process?
Anything you wish you had done differntly?

It is horrible weather here in San antonio, so I am thinking of doing this project tomorrow or sat.

Oh yea, the bike is 06 superglide

thanks

The service manual is a waste of time for that project.

1) get new fork seals.

2) go to lowe's or equivalent and buy a 2' long piece of 2" schedule 40 pvc. This will be your fork seal driver.

3) go to napa and buy a 12mm allen socket that is like 4+" long. I don't remember the part number but it's flat black.

4) remove wheel.

5) remove 12mm allen inside the bottom of the fork. Remember to place drain pan underneath.

6) remove fender

7) remove fork dust cap, dust seal and retaining ring.

8) use fork lower as slide hammer. it will come off, trust me.

9) remove fork seal from fork lower.

10) remove fork spring, spacer from fork tube

11) insert Intiminator, spring, washer, spacer (in that order)

12) replace lower and just tighten 12mm allen bolt. You can torque it once you refill the fork tube with required fork oil and tighten cap. also before you torque 12mm bolt, replace fender for rigidity.

repeat for other fork.

hound, it is a very simple operation. takes a few hours first time.

Take your time.

Good info is in the service manual.

You do not need steps 1 - 2 - 3 - 5 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 12 on the list above.

All of that is unnecessary to install the Intiminators.

This is an upgrade that worked well on my machine.

Definately worth the cost and the effort.

These are great steps to follow. Especially 4, 5 & 6 in the order.

I just did this mod this past wknd... got everything all back together and realized like a dumb *** I put them in upside down Sooo... apart they came... again. But this time I did that steps the Mud listed. Careful removing the fork cap, keep pressure on it while you're unscrewing it otherwise it will fly across the garage. You'll only do that once, kinda like a cat eating an electrical cord.

IMO take the cap off while the forks are still in the triple trees. once its off remove them, then you can turn them upside down and drain the fluid as well as remove the the washer, spacer and spring out of the fork. Move the fork up and down to help get as much fluid out as possible. Maybe leave them upside down for 10-15 min or so.

Be sure to put them in right side up. Only a dumb *** would put them in upside down. Don't be a dumb ***...hehehe

Reesestewww, This is one thing I love about the forum. People sharing "Real Life" $hit that happens. Too often people don't want to show that they are human and make mistakes. Thanks for sharing

well i did the install today and everything went pretty good.
I took the caps off upside down in a bucket and it worked good. I had a little trouble getting the caps back on but it wasn't too bad. I didn't cut the spacers, just left them the same.

I only had time to go for short ride. 15 or so miles and from what I can tell it was worth it.

Thanks for the advice.
