Well, in my case its cause the bike is in the Witness Protection Program and the feds won't let him show his tag!

(You'll notice you can never get a clear look at his face either)

to me it is just a privacy thing. I am not really worried about someone stealing the bike.
don't know the exact reason but it just feels like the right thing to do
but I wouldn't post a pic of myself either. I don't know why I just don't want to.
maybe I am just ugly

You can throw away your SSN statements and your bank statements too. Most likely nothing will happen...but it only takes one a$$hole to find the paperwork and steal your identity.

People do it 'cause it makes them feel safe..but.. I can go to a bike show or any parking lot and take a pic of a bike and its' plate...hiding your plate doesn't make sense...now come on with the urban legends..eg: a friend of a friend showed his tag online and the next day his dog died..
