Going to take the tins off tomorrow any suggestion on draining the gas? i havent done it on my 07 SB yet and was wondering if anyone had any good techniques.
also while the tins are off i am chopping the rear fender and getting them painted. also going with burly slammer kit. any other suggestions (REASONABLE) while the bike is half apart?
Easiest way to drain the tank is to remove the top plate, then drain the tank using a cheap siphon pump. I pick up one like what is used to fill a kerosene heater from Home Depot. I was able to remove almost all the fuel this way and made no mess when I removed the crossover and the tank.
The removal of the fenders is pretty straight forward. I used painters tape to protect finished surfaces.
Here is a GREAT thread showing the removal of the guts from the tank.
You can also put two pairs of vice-grips on the fuel cross-over and then cut the hose between them. Thread a bolt up each side to plug the hose and pull the tank. Then put it over a bucket and remove the plugs to drain the tank. Make sure your bucket is large enough to hold all the gas or your next post will be "Anyone have suggestions on cleaning up fuel spills?" Don't ask how I know...
