Just purchased a new 2010 FXDC, Black Ice Pearl. I installed forward controls (part # 49080-06A) using the suggestions mention in this forum (originally posted by Ws6 formula) to cut the old shift shaft lever in place of removing the inner & outer primary covers. WOW my thanks for that suggestion. The whole job took about 2 hours. This forum is great. No additional parts were needed.
Yep - that's the link. I did mine over the hollidays. I haven't cut my original shifter yet, just tucked it behind that engine bolt. Haven't had any problems at all. And it's amazing how much nicer the shifter rod that WS6 recommends is over the rod in the kit.
Great information and many thanks to those who provided it.
just installed my forward controls on my 2010 super glide custom .thanks a million to whom ever posted the info it has save me time and most of all money. im just a little disapointed with harley you would think that if normal joes can figure this out they would have came up with a better way than there plan of attack. anyway thanks everyone

And lose out on that fat labor charge?? yeah, right, lol
I was reading that some have noticed a leak from the thru-hole for the now removed shaft. Some were saying once the shaft is removed the seal in the thru-hole in time drops down and causes a leak. Has anyone experienced this?
In the pics on this thread is that a cap that was put on the primary cover after tha shaft is removed?
One more thing, that other shift-rod that you guys are using in place of the one in the kit. Is that a HD part or after market? If it's HD, what is the part #? Will it fit on an '09 Super Glide Custom?
Thanks guys...getting close to taking this on...(I research the hell out of stuff...lol)
