Default can't lower front end

I was reading how you guys have all dropped the forks through the trees on your glides. My 04 trees won't do that. The question is, since I have bought a used 04, is are these forks after market? The fork is larger than the hole in the tree, and comes up through it using a tapered design, then is capped on the top over the tree.

Can I get these forks shortened? how much does that run, and where?

also,

I want to know how you guys all change your seats on these things. the bolt is on the inside of the fender, and I can't get a wrench in there. do I need a stand of some sort?

cheers guys

Not sure if that's a stock design or not. I don't think it is, but could be wrong. I had a '97, now have a '06. No tapered fork tubes on either.

You'll have to replace the springs with shorter ones.

The seat hold down screw should be at the back of the seat. It screws in to a special fitting held in to a stock hole in the fender. It should be easily reached from the top. If yours isn't like that, somebody "fixed" it.

your bike looks to be a Wide Glide. The forks on those stop inside the top tree. To lower them you'll need to buy a lowering kit. I installed the Progression Suspension Cruise Control kit which includes new springs and parts that allow you to lower the bike 1" or 2", as you desire. The kit costs a little under $100 and takes about 3 to 4 hours to install once you get all set up. I installed Screamin Eagle fork oil at the same time. I suggest that you not do that as it makes the front end pretty stiff. Install the lowering kit first and then, if you still want it stiffer, switch to SE fork oil.

Enjoy!
