The PO of my '07 FXD had the factory security system dis-armed. The dealer will re-arm it at no charge. I already know that this system requires a good battery in the fob; the engine won't start with a dead fob. If I have the system re-armed, I will carry a spare fob battery. Any other issues with this factory security system? Opinions on whether I should have it re-armed, or leave it disarmed?
Good question, sorry can't help you, I just had the smart siren 11 with the pager installed on my 2010 fatboy lo, it has the security system but didn't have the other, I want to be able to hear as well as see if someones messing with my baby.
I have never had a problem with mine. I just replace the battery once a year. The only thing I don't like about it is the chirp that goes along with having the siren installed. The manual says it can be turned off, but I have tried and the dealer has tried. It doesn't turn off.
Anyway, I don't see any downside to having it re-armed. May save your bike.
mine has worked perfectly for over 2 years with the orig. batt. Your engine will start even without the fob weak batt or no! There is a way to disarm the system without the fob and it will be clearly described in your owner's manual. And the dealer should know the procedure by heart.
Yup. Got the basic system on my 09 FLHTC - no siren. Never a problem and still using the original fob battery after about 16 months.
Only trouble I sometimes have is forgetting the fob in the house when I'm out cleaning or working on the bike. Back it out of the garage and then need to fire it up cause the driveway has an incline. Hit the starter - - - nothing. Turn sigs flashing, dashlights blinking, basically having my bike shout "THIEF!!!!!!"
I carry the little instruction card that comes with the alarm system with me every time I ride. That way I can disarm and start the MC the old fashioned way, with a key. I don't trust myself to remember the sequence of buttons you have to push to disarm since I have only done it once so far.
I had a '05 with factory security, had forgotten about the personal code and override. I didn't get a manual from the PO, will order one so I can set up the security system after it is re-engaged. I will carry a spare CR2032 battery; easier to change a fob battery than go through the override sequence. Thanks to all who responded - great input from the forum!
