I have the same job waiting for me..I have an 07 SB and bought SB 09 wheels(cos I like dem black rims). The 09 bearings are the same outer diameter as the 07 but are a little thinner than the 07 bearings thats why I guess some peeps get problems and have to machine spacers. The local custom shop who are doing mine said they just machine a tad in depth in the hub where the bearing sits and then press the 07(1") bearings in flush...they must know, they've done a bunch of these .Seems logical to me..heard other suggestions like..buy and use the 09 axles etc but then the calipers have a bit of play(I think).
I'm sticking with my local custom shops idea..

Good Luck..........Sumpnut

Also, others have said it will work with just 1" bearings...guess I'll find out at the dealer. I can't fabricate so I'll have to have the dealer make it work...sounds like more $$$$....can anyone else confirm the need for modified spacers?

this is the rotor you need. it's the same one that come on the v rod.

this is one of the only after market rotors that will fit. these are the ones i plan on getting on my next tire change.

I was fitting the wheel to an '07 SBob and had to custom make all spacers for fitment.

my bro had the same problem with the rear wheel. to much drag. the front wheel wasn't as bad. all he had to do was machine the stock spacers a little to get them to line up.

Cool rotor! I think I'll be getting that one!

I guess I need to find a custom shop around here in Omaha, NE to do my spacer work. Really appreciate all the advise here!

I just found out that HD sells FXD wheels called "Switchblades" and they are Chromed from the factory! They go for $377.94/ea on Zanotti. I'm not that good at math, but that means for a set of chromed FXD wheels brand new = $756.

I bought my "used" FXD wheels for $300, and it'll cost $615 to get them chromed at ChromePros (& 5 week wait) = $915.

I'm getting that sinking stupid feeling again...................

I didn't know that either...about the switchblades...
I already had my wheels and just exchanged them so I only paid a total of $725.
This switchblade option sounds better for you.
Chrome pros might actually buy your un-chromed FXD wheels from you if you have a hard time selling them, but likely at a reduced price.

as for the rest of the conversation....

Well I'm not sure where the problem would lie...
If the 08 wheels are different, do they use a different bearing or different spacer?

If the spacers are indeed what is different, you might be able to order the chrome spacers for an 08 rather than have yours machined...kill two birds with one stone by getting chrome spacers and saving the money of machining....but i would check with the dealer to make sure.
The chrome ones were not that expensive...proabably cheaper than a machine shop job.

I think you can just order either the new spacers, or the different bearings and pull it off.... i wouldn't think the forks are any different.

keep us posted...

Getting the 08 spacer will not work because they changed the axle size in 08. Kansaskid is trying to put an 09 wheel on a 06 or 07 dyna. The axles are diffrent. what he can do is keep the 09 wheel with the bearings it came with.. and just get 08 and up spacers and axle.

What sickwithit said. That's what I decided to do when I put the '08 Fat Boy front wheel on my Fat Boy front end. Just buy the 25mm axle and spacers. At this time I'm runnin' a Dyna 19" and it doesn't sit on the axle where it should. The 19 is different width than other Harley hubs. Fork leg holes are supposed to be the same size. On the back, the axle goes thru the caliper. I don't think you would want a loose fit there with a 25mm axle in a 25.4 mm hole.

When I get this mod done I plan to post a "how to" for this swapping an '08-'10 wheel onto an '06-'07 Street Bob to try and end the confusion once and for all.

Let me summarize what I think I know so far thanks to you all:

'08 and up Dyna wheels use 25mm axles and bearings. My '07 uses 1" axles and bearings. Apparently the 1" bearings will fit (tight) into the later model wheels, but they are a bit thicker, and so if you do that you need to grind down the wheel spacer a bit so the bearings sit flush. Another option is to just buy 25mm axles and bearings...but I need to track that down for sure because some have mentioned the other parts on the front end won't fit right unless you change them out too (forks, brakes, etc).

Also a personal lesson learned...if you are going to powdercoat FXD wheels and don't have them because you have an '06-'07 SB, then buy a set of used FXD wheels off the nice people on this forum! If you do this, buy the '06-'07 FXD wheels for a straight swap. If you buy '08-'10 FXD wheels you'll need to do everything I mentioned above. BUT...if you are going to just chrome them, it's CHEAPER to buy the NEW and already chromed SWITCHBLADE wheels from HD (or Zanotti) than to buy a used FXD set and have them shipped to ChromePros for chroming, then shipped back...plus less downtime for your ride!

Wheew....hopefully this helps someone in the future.

Default Great Work Guys

I just went through similar Madness with the whole rear fender from the new wideglide on the FXD. I finished mine after every dealer told me It would not fit. Also I installed the Wide Glide Plate Mount.

I am too getting my wheels powdercoated. (09 FXD) I feel the FXD is the better bang for your buck on the Dynas.
