Default Screaming Eagle Air Cleaner kit or not?

Anybody add the SE ventilator performance kit yet to their Fat bob, or any Dyna for that mater?

I added the SE Slip ons to my 2010 Fatbob, I wanted a bit more noise but not Obnoxious loud. I am pleased with the sound overall but wish it was a touch louder.

So in the interest of customizing and other things, I was thinking of adding the the SE Ventilator performance kit. From my understanding, I will get a bout 10% performance boost (According to the dealer). While that is certainly welcome for avoiding the blue hairs (Snow Birds), will this also affect the overall sound from the slips on's?

Some have said after the EFI tuning absolutely, and others have said NO. So I uess my question(s) is will I get anything out of this besides a performance boost? If so, will it be Audio only or am I missing another benefit?

Newbie here, sorry if this sounds dumb. Just trying to make sure I spend money where I need to spend it.

I added the ventilator a/c on my 2010 Street Bob but instead of slip ons I did 2-2 big radius pipes and had it dyno tuned.
That is more important to the performance increase than which air cleaner you choose the difference between the open round a/c, the heavy breather, and the ventilator is minimal just pick the style you like and either get a good tuner or have it tuned.

As far as extra sound your best bet is going to be changing out the baffles in the mufflers. The air cleaner and tune isn't going to add noticeable volume.

Hope that helps some
And because I know enough that posts about parts aren't allowed without pics around here here you go

I think you would come out just as well in buying a K&N filter and modifing a breather cover. There's a DIY thread right here in the Dyna section on how to complete it.

First off, if you can do a youtube on the sound of your slips ons I'd be very appreciative. Considering those but don't want too much louder than stock (ears are already screwed up).

A/C won't change the exhaust note but you may well hear the air entering the intake.

Tuning will be important. The a/c is the most restrictive part of the air system - worse than the stock pipes. So adding all that additional air in will result in leaning your air/fuel mixture out even more than the already very lean stock tune.

Benefits - engine will run cooler, performance will improve.
Cons - $ to make all the changes, lower gas mileage.

should the bike get tuned to a better 13.4:1 AFR over the 14.7, the pipes will sound deeper but not really louder. Your SE slipons have a baffle plate I believe. If so, you can easily add a touch more sound to em by simply drilling a few small hole in the plate. Don't knock the plate out as some do, it sounds like **** coming off throttle. Just 3 or 4 small holes in each plate. The air cleaner you are looking at is not really at the top of the intake performance category. Better to get a Doherty for more HP and torque gains. The cleaner above is a nice looking cleaner so if you like the way it looks, definitely buy it and don't worry about a couple extra HP and torque you can get from the doherty or a few others. Tuning is a must to get the afr down to the levels giving you a deep rich sound to your bike. It often amazes me the difference in sound of a properly tuned bike vs one running too lean. Also by tuning, I don't mean getting a download. I mean getting a tts or sert and having it done by someone who really knows his **** on the dyno. There are many folks on these forums that can say with absolute certainty that having their bike dynoe'd by someone good, their bikes sound tons better and really got a significant increase in performance from having either the H-D download or purchasing a PC3 or PCV and running a canned map with it.

You will need to re-program the PCM (ECM, computer, whatever) to get the 10% power increase. The PCM will adapt but apparently not enough. I did not hear any difference in sound from the SE slip-ons but did from the SE A/C. Now sounds more like a big V8 sucking air through a 4 barrel carb. Since these were the only performance mods I will be making I went with the Harley re-map. The difference in performance was very noticable, esp. in 6th gear.

Sorry for posting so late...Thanks to everybody for your thoughts and opinions! Okay to answer everybodys points...

So Obviously, the reprogram of the ECM is needed and a tune, no worries. I figured it would be best but just thought I would ask the question being a newbie. Not worried about losing MPG as sombody suggested. Main thing is, will it be better for the engine? Especially riding in AZ where it is hot and dry!

As for looks and appearance, I like the look of it versus the others I have seen. Not that this is the deciding factor or anything, just saying... Dont really like the cone heavy breather ones personally. This seems more subtle and fits the bike in my personal opinion.

Was told by dealer it would make pipes sound a bit louder but did not buy it so I thought I would ask. I don't really wish I was louder, for my taste, these are more throaty and deeper than stock and I am happy with that. Okay, maybe a touch more to them, but then again, I did not want to replace all of it. For the cost of the pipes, I cant complain if your looking for a little increase in sound.

Now as for removing the baffels as sombody suggested, I certainly would consider it. Problem is, I am far from the mechanical type (no joke please), I am a PC geek so me and engines dont get along so well (Save the jokes, those are for a whole different topic...LOL).

So I guess all in all, will it be better for the engine in my hot enviorment, and besides having it re-tuned and less MPG, is there anything else i need to be concearned with before proceeding?
