I am going to install HD's Screaming Eagle Street Cannons on my 2014 Limited. I have heard them and I like the sound. But just out of curiosity, has anybody actually measured any performance gain with just the addition of these mufflers on an otherwise stock motor?
I hardly think you would get any performance gains from some EPA slip ons with a stock engine, you would have to change the air cleaner and get rid of the CAT to get a little bit of performance gain. Many people do the stage 1 to get the engine to breathe better, have it run cooler and get a little bit of more pep in it. You start seeing real performance gains once you start cramming it up, doing head work and the such. Good luck!!!
That's kind of what I thought. I hear claims of 5 or 6 hp gains with just the muffler change and I just wondered if anyone had ever done a before and after dyno run. In reality, I'm not expecting any performance gains, I just like the sound. Thanks.
I put some slip ons and new air cleaner with a fuel pack 3 and got a nice return on performance. I don't know what exactly as I did not have it dyno'd, but it feels stronger all the way around. The key is to do the intake (AC) to get more air in and add fuel to get results.
There is almost a universal rider perception of more horsepower when a louder exhaust is installed when in fact there is usually no change or an actual reduction in power.
FuelMoto dynoed their stone stock 14 limited for a baseline and then put a set of 4" jackpot mufflers and picked up 8 or 9 ft lbs if my memory serves me right. I don't know how loud the jackpots are. Anyway it was a large increase.
Not exactly the answer to your question, but here is what I just did. On a 2014 Limited I added the street canons, high flow SE air cleaner, and used the 50 state legal 2013 Street Tuner and had the dyno done at the dealer. HP went from 73.99 to 81.23 and torque from 87.71 to 96.01. Close to a 10% gain on each. Bike runs very well and change is not dramatic, but it is noticeable. I like the street canons, but a little too quiet for me.
