Default Drive Belt Tension

How tight is a drive belt supposed to be? I put my rear wheel on after my Indy mounted a new tire but my manual does not say how tight the belt should be? A buddy of mine said 1/4" - 1/2" but was not completely sure so thought I would check in here. Thanks all.

Here are pics from my 2010 Dyna Manual. Also shows a special tool to measure the force applied when measuring the deflection.

A good rule of thumb is to give it a twist, should go about 45 deg.

yup just twist it to 45 deg or so. won't hurt anything to run it a little loose.

Ummm, yes it can be a problem, a tight belt will perform better and a loose belt will break much more readily than a tight one. Most people do not tighten the belt to its proper tension.
