I got standard 418s black 11.5 inch, stiffer than original, but not too stiff. It has a 5-position rebound damping adjustment, so you could choose between hard & soft. I'm 220lbs & I ride solo, my current setting is at second softer, which is still harder the original.

I weigh 185lbs and also have a 2008 with 11" standard Progressives. They are pretty harsh and I would absolutely not even consider driving a long distance with them. I love how low the bike sits, but have seriously contemplated sending the stock shocks in and getting them shortened. I love the Progressives, but they definately aren't for long distance.

I'm 210 with 11 inch Progressive 412 shocks and the ride is pretty stiff and harsh. I couldn't imagine riding with the heavy duty shocks on.
The stock shocks were a much better ride but I love the lowered look with the 11 inch progressives.

If you want to lower the bike and are going to replace the shocks anyway, do it with the shocks, not lowering blocks. Lowering blocks change the angle of the shocks and could affect the ride or handling just as much as the wrong shock can. HD's might be a stiffer ride for you at 185. For me, they work well, much better than stock.
12" HD 412s, full covered... 220lbs... ride all day long no problem... but I like a firmer ride. Agree... the HDs would be too stiff for 185lbs. I run mine on the lowest setting... even when I bagged up and headed for Sturgis.... didn't hardly affect the ride.... lol

I've tried the Progressive's (440s) on several Harley's. Never found them any better than stock...jmho. I have Ohlin's now, and while expensive, they are nice, far far beter than the progressives.

I just put the progressive 412 standards (11") (stocks were 12") on my bike tonight and they look cool but I can't ride it because I drank a lot of beers putting them on and there is ice on the road here. That said, I didn't touch the preload and they feel kind of spongy. I am 185 and I'm sure I'll have to move the preload up a bit.
