Default I am an IDIOT!!!

I just had to take a moment to publicly flagellate myself for my STUPIDITY this morning. It seems that every time I get a new bike, I just HAVE to lie it down. I've never done any real damage, but the ways I've done this never cease to amaze me. It's like I have to "baptize" them within the first couple of months. Here's what happened:

I as on the way out of my long, inclined driveway. A delivery man had a large package for my wife, and wanted to know where to put it.

So, MORON that I am, I said, "Let me turn this thing off and show you." I then proceeded to shut down the bike, and put down the kickstand. I started to get off the bike, and OF COURSE, the kickstand started to go back up because it was on an incline.

I gently laid it down, but it was still so humiliating I want to kick myself. The only damage was some light scuff marks on the "uncool" engine guard I had installed and some scuff marks on my new hard, leather-covered saddlebags. (Will some black shoe polish work to fix those?)

I won't make that particular stupid mistake again. Gotta wonder how I'll baptize my next bike.

End of rant.

It's called "getting an education". Cuz you won't make that mistake again.

I thought your story was going to end up a joke when you said a "delivery man had a large package for my wife" :-)

I had a similar situation last summer as I was on my bike backing in the garage. I thought I had the kickstand down in place and then turned the front end to the left as I was getting off. Slowly I felt the bike go down and there was nothing I could do. Like you, fortunately, no damage except pride. I learned my lesson. Thankfully, the engine guard was on. I am very wary of the HD kickstand.....seems very weak for a heavy bike.

I did the same thing about 10 minutes after i got mine. I was moving it around in the garage. I thought the kickstand was all the way down but as i was letting it down the stand folded up. It was like slow motion as I tried to push it back up. Luckily no damage but my pride.

I left my forks in the locked position on a previous bike I had.. I didn't even bother trying to straighten the handlebars as I slammed it in gear and popped the clutch and boy what a feeling moving forward and not being able to turn. Down I went and smashed the floorboard into the crankcase. I borrowed my buddies bike and rode 11 miles to the nearest Auto Zone for some JB Weld...cleaned the leaking oil from around the puncture hole smashed in some JB Weld and waited 4 hours or so for the stuff to set up just so I could ride...
Thats my Stupid Move in my bike history
