Why is it so hard to find a 49mm Steering damper for my 2006 Dyna Superglide? Only place I could find the complete kit is storzperf.com. I dont like the price of $420. Any suggestions?
There is a guy selling them on Ebay from Walnut California for about $100.00. It ties into the trees from the frame instead of the fork legs. I emailed them but never got an answer so I passed. Not a really good option but an option none the less.
SC- that clamp wouldn't work. The bike that is made for had inverted forks and the area where it clamps is much larger than 49mm, although the inner fork tubes on that bike are 49mm.
There is a company that makes one for about half as much as Storz for the older dyna models. I'll have to do some digging and find there name. Maybe they have something for the newer models by now.
Thanks for helping me out fellas. I need one that connects to the forks, not sure if my new triple tree will have the right holes for connecting under it. I have seen 49 mm clamps for sale, but not sure if they would join to or even work with a separate steering damper. What I really need is a kit, like the dozens I have seen at a reasonable price of around $200- $250. I find it hard to believe that there are dozens of other makes and models but the 49 mm only exists in the expensive stolzracing version. I asked at the local harley dealership and they couldnt find one either. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I saw the 49mm on Storz site also. List is $420. Also noticed some of their top mount dampers which have similar list prices were on sale for around $220. Did you call Storz? Maybe they'll run a special. Try ebay and see if anyone is selling used.
You can buy the size front clamp you need and buy the dampner separately. Storz is nice but doesn't have to always be that expensive to be good. Check here. http://www.pmfronline.com/front_end_components.php
You can give them a call and they sometimes will do special size pieces

Mahalo guys, you are a big help. Yes I looked on Ebay for used and new. I'm not really keen on anything used with my nice setup, but that is a good idea. Yes I saw pmfronline.com damper and clamps. The clamps look really nice, better than most I have seen. Only thing is the sizes 32mm thru 43mm$28.0051mm thru 54mm$31.00No 49 mm. I will certainly give them a call and see what they can do. I like the price of their damper also, with the clamp is is very reasonable. Thanks again fellas!
