Default Handlebar wireing question

I tried searching but I have a heck of a time finding anything with the search feature for this forum. The forum is awesome!!! But the search feature sucks. Anyway, on a 2002 Super Glide FXD
When running wires threw new handlebars where do you unplug the wire harness? I followed the wires from the switches to just behind the neck where they go into the backbone of the frame. I tried to see where they come out on the other side but there is so much wiring and other crap jammed all together there that I can't really see much. When I look into the frame (behind the neck) with a light I can see the plug for the headlight in there and the ones for the turn signals but I can't pull them out. I pulled until I was worried the plugs would break apart but none of the wires budge. I tried to wiggle them around and I tried fishing around with a long screw driver thinking they was just hung up on something but I can't get them to pull out. Any ideas? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

You should be able to access the other end of the harness through the rear panel in your rear fender. Spray some silicone lube down the backbone and in any access holes. You will have to take your time and pull/push on the connector/harness with some needle nose pliers or screwdriver etc.. I suspect that since your bike older (like mine) the vibration over the years tends to move the connectors futher down the neck. They will come out! Hope this helps

I cant offer a definitive answer for an 02 but on an 07 we have a plastic cover that snaps into place underneath the backbone right at the neck. Right above the tank cross-over line. Thats where you can pull that mess of wiring out.

My '02 FXDL had a cable tie holding the harness to the RIGHT side rubber plug. I had to pull out the plug & cut the cable tie. Before pulling, I took the rubber cover off under the fender & straightened out the service loop under there. The harness just slid right out after that.

Thanks for all the ideas guys. Turns out it was that "service loop" that was screwing me up. I got the harness pulled out now.
