Well I finally got around to installing my HID light kit, no problems at all. Everything fit inside the bucket nicely!!!

I didn't plan this way but prior to getting my HID kit I had put a 2" tank lift on my 2007 FXD. The ballast fit perfectly between the tank and the frame with some double sided 3M adhesive. I believe it should work with a 1" tank lift if you don't wanna go too high but it hides it perfect and makes a great use of the gap. This is the best way to go.

Jay, what Kelvin rating did you end up using? I am considering a 12000k.

Also, could you give a comparison to your OEM headlight?
