No, it's not hard at all.
One of the things I love about having a bike is working on it. I don't understand why some guys go through the dealer and pay upwards of $300 for what costs $40 in oil, filter, o-rings, and a gasket.
Maybe thier time is more valuable than mine. I never want to be that busy.

One reason I ride a HD is for the pleasure of doing all my own work (short of an engine rebuild etc.). That is why I also drive a Jeep Wrangler, same thing, I can do most everything myself and I enjoy doing it. Having a well equipped garage and some mechanical background is a plus. What pisses me off is those weekends when there is yard work to do and I want to work on my toys or ride, painful I say.
Well I had Miller High Life, and for lunch I had more Millers..
