Now I will have to remove some $250 mufflers and still spend another $540 to get what I wanted in the first place.
You made the point that I was getting ready to. I did this very same thing. Now I've got two nice sets of mufflers (the stocks, and the SE's) sitting on my self collecting dust. Get what you really want the first time around. If you don't have the cash yet, you are better off waiting till you scrape it up.
I got the Screaming Eagle slip-ons originally...personally I thought they sucked. Barely louder/deeper than stock. Now I've got V&H pipes.
I have the SE slipon mufflers, not much louder than stock at all. I also live near Pittsburgh, maybe we can meet and you can listen to the difference before you drop some cash? Send me a message.
I also went with Rush 1.75 slipons and SE heavy breather With a Power Commander-5. Works great. I found a great buy on some used V&H big radius blacks. I am going to stack a set of BCT qq baffles with the cut down V&H baffles in these pipes and will have the Rushes for sale, nice cond and a good sound. Mike.
Based on My experience, if I had $1000+ and the stock bike this would be my order. The slip ons added the most satisfaction, everything else is pretty much bunched together. I don't know where you will run out of cash. I would invest in a JS Jack which is a tool not a mod, but makes DIY mods so much easier. You will need it for 3 and 4:
1 Slip ons (Rush 2.0 is what I've got). If you like the tommy gun style, this is the only pipe mod you will ever need.
2 TTS tuning kit puts life into the bike fixes drivability issues (heat surging), and you can add improvements as you go.
3 Sputhe positrack chassis stabilizer (front)
4 Ricor intimidators (front shock inserts) .. I think you are out of money here.
5 A seat if you'd like a different style or comfort, pretty inexpensive upgrade
6 rear shocks, ricor or ohms, lots of $$$
7 GPS, zumo 660, lots of $$$
8 Tach
9 pull back risers.
10 Smaller Air cleaner/filter (note that the bike comes alive with a tuning kit, the air cleaner adds relatively little performance to the stock bike with slip ons, save your money and do something else)
11 Bluetooth headset for helmet tunes while you ride.
As you notice I'm more into ride than style, except for removing the reflectors. Many have had problems with that temp gauge and you have to press a button to read it. If you are worried about oil temp, get yourself a oil cooler.

I went with Rush slip-ons, liked em a lot, but put on a Supermeg 2:1 after less than a year. As has been pointed out above, do it right the first time! Adding slip-ons is only a band-aid fix, and one that hurts when you rip it off. If you need to save up for a while you can drop $100 on a set of XIEDs to help your engine run cooler and gain a little throttle response.
The best (low cost) mods I've done are the Mustang Vintage Wide seat, and heel rests. They make long rides a lot more comfortable.
My vote would be pipes. My bike has the Rush slip-ons and they sound great. Not obnoxious loud but a nice low rumble. Did you sell your shield already? I may be interested if it's a quick release variety.
I appreciate all the good feedback here. The dealer actually bought the windshield back off me & I picked up a new jacket. I wish there was a way I could move down south so I could have more time to ride. I think Pgh & the seasons are starting to weigh on me.
Only thing good about this city are our sports teams, er at least football & hockey.
If you go with the slip-ons, cycle shacks were my fav, about 160 to 180 via ebay, that way you could get your breather and pcIII, or pcV now and do the full stage 1, even though you dont have to with just slip-ons. My ness was around 160?, I cant remember for sure and my pcv was 389. Or do the full exhaust and youd still be around 1k if you shop hard enough, my vance and hines were 569 on ebay new, just look for the best deals.
My personal fav right now is my apes, theyre just more comfortable for me than the stock drag bars, and slip-ons with apes would be under 1k also, if apes are for you that is.
