I could be wrong but the longer the stroke the less torque the engine will have, please correct me if I'm wrong. So the the longer the stroke the longer it takes the engine to do one RPM, maybe that is why the tranny has a different gear ratio.
It is my belief that the average rider will never wear out a motor if all servives and oil changes are done correctly..I know that there is always the exception, but really, how many ride their bike over 100,000 miles in say 10-12 years, if at all. and with a 2 week turn around from the factory with a new stock motor, heck I wouldn't worry to much about it..Now if one was to go in and play with his laptop, or do some shoddy work with shoddy after market parts, and I'm not putting any after market parts dealers down, I just know there is shoddy parts out there, no promises there..and No i do not work for Harley..But I do ride a lot and not just on harleys, I had a BMW R-90/6 with 127,000 on it with no major problems, also a K-100 that had almst 100,000 on it when I sold it.. I just bought a new 06 FXDI and I do not intend to do any mods to the motor or trans to it, I just turned over 3,000 on it yesterday..I figer it will still be going strong when my grandson receives it from me in my will..[sm=biker.gif]
Soup48, I'm afraid you are wrong. The longer the stroke means more torque. The shorter the stroke means easy wind up for high rpm horsepower. As far as long stroke equaling torque is concerned, go tear down a tractor diesel and look at the crankshaft. Stroke as long as a summer day creating nothing but low end torque. Now look at a inline for from a crotch rocket, my ***** rise and drop futher when I cough.
