They make a rain sock for that style. It's hard to see from the photo on the HD site, but it's part number 28728-10, and it's just the sock portion.

The recipe for the dye mod is to just clean the filter oil off the filter,down to the bare media,then follow the instructions on the box for which ever dye you buy. I would just be sure to watch for premature separation of the media from the rubber encaseing parts.
I also did this mod Dabreeze! just last week. Only I did mine on an '08 A/C cover. Sadly they aren't quite made the same as yours and their is a gap between the fatbao A/C insignia and the actual filter. i'm gonna find some self adhearing weather strip and fill the gap with that. It looks fab already though THANK YOU Mud !!!
