I've ridden my FXDC with a fullface helmet...when it was cold... but as far as the speedo goes.... it's a non-issue about whether you can see it or not. By the time you break it in, you'll know what gear your in, and about what speed you're traveling... without looking at the speedo....
I'm for the FXDC all the way. I looked at the two side by side, took note of the difference and to buy the stuff the 'C' has separately, would be well over 1K. As to the spokes... I like 'em.
Hmm, well I have an 05 FXDC, and it sounds like things have changed since then, but for sure I'd buy whichever one has cast wheels and bar mounted speedo. I would definitely not want to have my speedo and warning lights any lower than they are on the bars.
While I do like the speedo on the bars there just isnt alot of good looking options like I thought there would be when I bought it.
I do prefer the mag wheels of the SG over spokes though.
Now if you dont like chrome then this evens the value a little.
Dude, I like your fat tank conversion, but love the SG tank and the FXDSE bars with the tach setup you had. What didn't you like about it? I'm curious because I'm looking for a silver '09 or '10 that I can put those bars on, with the distressed brown seat (solo), forwards, and a stage 1. Please tell me what's wrong with that bar setup that made you want to change it. Gracias.
The actual cost difference for the Moco to produce the Super glide compared to the custom is probably $8.22, but if you had to buy the parts out right you would most likely have better than the $1000.00 in it. It is all about what it is worth to you and what of it is going to be usefull to you.
FXDC has all the good bling, and the larger tank.
But I keep dreaming of a stock FXD with a 110" motor,
upgraded suspension, dual front discs,
and no other visible changes to the appearance.
I love my FXDC, when i went in i was planning to buy an FXD for cost alone and do some modes then i saw the FXD and FXDC sitting next to each other loved the chrome, and wanted the tank console and asked the difference they said $1,000 and there was no turning around at that point road out on it less than hour later. I love the bike If you like the look of the bike you would not be able to buy and FXD and make it into an FXDC for $1,000 unless you did all the work yourself and bought your parts from ebay.
If i were going to take one thing from the FXD id probably take the mag's just to have them chromed and put on my bike that would be it.
i think the custom is definately a better "buy", however, i bought the fxd because i didnt want spoked wheels. i travel alot and i want to be able to plug a tire to get home. a tube just doesnt get it for me. i also like the looks of the cast weels better. it would have cost another 2 grand to get the wheels swapped out and i didnt want to go there. i think the day of spoked wheels is gone, but that's just my opinion.
Same reason i got the FXD, i do not like spoked wheels at all, i even tried to get the dealer to sell me a superglide custom with the FXD wheels installed on it but they would not do it, so i got the FXD. Its been an excellent bike, 16000 trouble free miles.

Sleeper warrior.
That is exactly why I would love to find some new tins and have a basic paint job done to them. i have done a lot to mine just to bring it back to old school look, but all that I have done has been minor things, need to move on to the bigger fish,...New tins / paint, Springer front end, nice rake job...ETC....
if you like chrome, get the custom..if you add the tach kit to the FXD,then the chrome dual guage housing, you'll be riding along one day and the thing will fall off.I had it happen twice.the chrome one was made from a brittle pot-metal,and it was either use the black one on my chrome bars and risers etc,or do something else.I ended up putting a tank on from a FXDWG and converting the dash, also, the ign with the removable key is a big thing, especially with the alarm.
Having to leave the key dangling from the side of the bike on the FXD,wears out the key fob for the alarm if you have it,and you end up losing it.
for 1K extra the custom is so much more bike than the fxd. You get a BLACK engine now for 2010. You get the chrome, the speedo on the tank, 2up ready, and did I mention the BLACK engine. The FXDC has way more value going for it than the FXD. And if your making payments the difference is like 20 bucks a month.
