A bud of mine is looking to get his first HD, he has run across a 1999 Wide Glide with 12k miles. Since this was a first gen TC motor are there any known issues that could be a major pitfall?
It has PM brakes, stretched tanks with some kind of custom paint and a thunderheader, even if all this looked good and suited the buyer there is more concern from a mechanical standpoint.
What hes more concerned with is any motor or trans issues that are prone to premature failures such as cam bearings, valve train, primary design flaws or crank pins etc. Thanks in advance for any replies.
Asking is over 9which is too high, but I advised him if it runs as well as it looks (if the motor is stock which I think it is)78-82 tops would be a good price.
99 and 2000 had an issue with cam bearings. Do a search on here and you should find lots of info.
If any mods. were done to the motor HD wouldn't fix under warranty. Brother-in-law found that out on his 2000 Ultra with a 95" motor.
Other than that should be a good bike with that low of miles.
