Default almost had a disaster today!

A few weeks ago i figured why my side bag was un-even. the steel plate was crooked.

no big deal. took off the 4 screws stuck the plate in the vise and bent it. looks good so im happy.

well today i was having some noise issues and just threw the bags on. well 70-80 mph down the parkway and some back roads then a quick stop for a slice. well not sure why i checked but i never tightened the 4 screws. the bag was 1 thread from maybe falling off or at least coming undone and falling down.

wow that was dumb....

moral for me. finish what you start!

I had an 88 FLHTC which had the funny hard bags, a little slot in the front and a latch in the back. I lost one whole cover once on a 40 mile stretch of I-10. Never found it. Between the new cover, hardware, and matching paint, it was a $1000 faux pas. Just a plug, but the repaint was done by Rock and Roll Custom Paint Works; best paint I ever saw.

You want to hear stupid....... Hubby loaded his 06 FLSTC and my brand new ( never ridden) 07 FXDL into our trailer. "Mr. Stubborn" was convinced he didn't need to tie down the bikes if they were "secured" in the CONDOR brand wheel chocks. God forbid he reads the instructions or follows their advise. Well, 160 miles later he opens the door to find my bike laying against his......
His tank is dented and paint scraped down to the primer from my clutch lever and handlebar bouncing up and down and rubbing back and forth, and his brake lever had gouged and scraped my windshield.
We both have custom limited edition HD paint jobs... and they dont sell enough paint to "repaint" his tank. He had to purchase a new tank from HD to the tune of $ 1,000 then pay to have it installed, and replace my quick detatch windshield which was an additional $450. All because he didn't strap down the front ends or bother to stop and check it during the trip. Needless to say, he learned an expensive lesson that day.

Maybe we're related, thats kind of how things go for me. I plan for butter side down, and if it doesnt happen, Im overjoyed. But I quit planning for good outcomes anymore, too disappointing.
