getting ready to order my TT and wondering where there are pictures of install on the forum? I have searched and found your commentary, but have been unable to find photos of actual installation. I agree with your comment about the directions, they seem a little sketchy to me.

The directions kinda suck. But there arent many ways to put it on. They give no instructions on how to make sure the bike/drivetrain is aligned. For the price they charge for this, they really need to step it up in the instruction department! Poorly aligned photo copied instructions WTF? I could hardly make out the pictures, and the bottom half of paragraph was chopped off.

Quality components though!

Here is the True Track. Sorry for the crappy pics. Iphone.

Start with the shop repair manual. That's an essential tool in any Harley owners tool box.
You'll find simple alignment instructions in it. Do that first.
Once you've done the alignment loosen up the front motor mount and see if you have a gap. If so fill it with shims.
Then install your stabilizer.

I was refering to a real alignment. Like is the engine/trans/rear tire straight with the frame? Is the rear tire centered with the whole frame? I looked through my service manual and of course they only address the only possible adjustment from the factory which is tilting the engine/driveline and making sure the rear tire is straight in the swingarm.

I'm a plumber/pipefitter so square, plumb, and aligned are something I deal with daily.

Unfortunately TT gets so much discussion here it is difficult to search out the better threads. I bought mine 3 years ago before HDF got as busy as it is and found all I had to do was take a deep breath and make a start! It would help to have a buddy round as well, so if you get stuck there are two of you to work it through. I just had to walk away a couple of times, but got it on eventually. It is worth the effort!

It is not TT we should criticise on their instructions for these kits, but Harley-Davidson for producing a bike without these stabilizers. If they were built-in from new we would all be riding around on really sweet handling bikes that cost just a few bucks more when new.

I agree that MoCo could and should have just elimnated a problem from the get go. But to pass of poor instructions because the bike should have come with it anyway is no excuse.

IMO the instructions were crap. I could harldy make out some/most of the pictures, some of the text was chopped off from poor photo copy alignment. It even looked like the instructions were copied off a magazine article.

So you are saying its ok to give out crappy instructions with the product as long as the company has them on their website?

FYI they still dont address total chassis alignment which they push as a selling point.

I'm not bashing the product, its very well built. Its just the instructions that leave something to be desired.

redrubicon2004,

I'm not making apologies for either Harley-Davidson, for producing a sub-standard bike, or True-Track, for producing sub-standard instructions for a product that puts things right. That's all!

This topic in all these aspects has been discussed for several years now on HDF. Time will heal any pain you feel, be assured! I did mine three years ago....
