noticed today wiping the bike down after a ride that my brake pads are pretty worn.
i'd like to replace them before i ride down to DC in a couple weeks.
any suggestions on what pads are good?
i've never had a problem with the stock pads, but if there's a decent upgrade available for not too much more money than stock pads, i'll go that route.
I went to Lyndall Z when I replaced mine. I'll be going back to stock next time. Despite what they tell you, these pads are anything but quiet. Took me a while to figure out what that noise was. Plus they don't stop any better. I haven't noticed any difference in brake dust either, can't say I saw a lot of dust with the stock pads.

I can only hear the front brake but they have a metal to metal sound. Lot real loud, I doubt someone beside you could hear it, but loud enough to get annoying after a while.
I've had NO problems with the Lyndall Z pads.
I had a real bad brake dust problem with stock pads on my chopper. with a 10.5" rim 280 tire the caliper sits inside the rim, so the rim catches all the dust. the problem virtually disappeared with the Lyndall's and pad life has greatly increased. no noise and stopping is great.
