My sissy bar recently broke ... it was my means of packing for trips.
long story may explain it later, but i need to find another place to pack.
Upon visiting the stealer i saw a Road Glide in flat black and decided i could learn to like a set of bags if they looked like that. does anyone have any ideas on how i could make that happen on my street bob?
Not sure how the road glide bags mount but maybe use a set of ghost brackets. I just put on a set of flh bags on mine ( sorry no good pics yet) . I found a set of old softtail heritage bag mounts and modified them to mount the hard bags. If you take off your strut covers you get a nice kinda flat mounting point between your bolts. Take some flat steel , drill the holes and weld your bag mounts to them. kinda how i did it
Joe has done this on here and he has some great pics. i am sure he will chime in here before to long. I too want to get some hard bags, have Joe powder them and then put them on.
Here's pics of FLH (Shovelhead) hard bags and RK leather bags. I decided I like the leather look better. Bag mounts are early Shovelhead mounts bolted to a backing plate. Modern HD dresser bags look huge on a Dyna.
I have a right side hard bag off and FLHT. If I have time I'll set it on the mounts and take pics.
I will be getting it fixed, but i have layout a new mounting system.
The hardbags will be an extra packing place for longer trips.
Harvey/ Joe, where did you guys find the FLH bags? they look perfect!
Joe, your bags are a bit too far out for my taste, can i assume they are only that far out because of your detachable sissy bar or will i have to mount them that far out too?
Bags look great guys . Mine are mounted and functional but still need the insides painted and some inserts made brackets need painted some different hardware ect,,,, lol but heres a few pics. Mine are not quick detach , well the bags come off quick but the bracket does not lol. I used a set of old softail heritage mounts and welded a bar to them. The wide bar was on them when i got the brackets i just added the small section in the front . Very easy this way imo .I wasn't gonna post a pic of the bracekt because its kinda crude looking and embarrassing considering im a welder/fabricator by trade LOL
