Did you run the automap yet? After you put a few miles on it you should hook up to the module and run it to smooth out the map.
Yes . I ran the auto map twice . It seemed to help a little , my mileage initially dropped to 30 mpg! Then after the auto run , I just filled up , and it improved to around 37-38 . I will run it another day or two , and do it again .
Wow, this is good information! I've been at work all day so I'm just now getting caught up. Someone mentioned temperature, well yesterday it was somewhere in the lower 60's but I've been riding all winter......it's my main mode of transport! I started noticing it a few weeks ago. It seems to do it all the time, in those gears but sometimes it feels worse, maybe it's me.
Someone mentioned octane, I try to stick to Exxon and I only use high octane, no 87 for me. I don't always use the same gas station, however, i can safely say I probably do 90 % of the time.
Tires, well my back is pretty new due to a flat at around 5000 miles but front is still original. I highly doubt it is the tires because you only feel the vibs when "getting on it".....example, cruising 65 mph in 6th and role on the throttle and run it up to around 80 just for the fun of doing it (don't role your eyes, you all do it too lol).
Someone else mentioned remapping.....well I don't have a power commander or tuner of any kind.....so.........
Did i hit it all?? Not sure, it was a long day.
Again, thanks to all for the help, and I'm glad i started the thread since there is others out there like me!
Graham, do you have any of the stage.1 hardware/download? I know that before I started using the TTS and was running the stage.1 download, the bike really did not do well in 6th below 65 at all... and it vibrated like hell when I did.
After using the TTS, and performing many tuning runs... I can run down to 60 in 6th, and it stays smooth, doesn't feel like I'm lugging very much at all.
I was amazed at how much the stage.1 caused my bike to vibrate at just about all rpm levels. When I downloaded my first TTS starting map... I just stood back and watched and listened... because the bike was idling so smoothly... really a night & day difference.
Might want to also check your plugs, plug wires and make sure your throttle body is clean... IAT and MAP can get coated with blow-by oil. You can clean them with spray cleaner specially formulated for MAP sensors.
Oh come on......Seriously? I've been riding for a while, and the vibrations only started recently. The book even recommends shifting to 6th at 55mph so why would HD recommend shifting from 4th to 5th at 45 and 5th to 6th at 55 if it's going to bog it down?
Ferget about what the manual says when it comes to shifting speeds, If you have any motorcycle experience [v-twin] You will know by the feel, and the seat of your pants when to shift your bike without lookin at your speedo.Personally i do not even shift to 5th gear till 55+, and 6th at close to 70 +.If you think 6th gear feels right at 55mph, then you either have a whole different sense of what lugging a motor is, or you perhaps have a whole different tune set up on your bike. Best way in my opinion to get a good feel as when to shift your bike is to wear a pair of ear plugs and then ride your bike, you will quickly realize by feel that you should shift your bike at higher speeds than what the manual shows.Remember that a TC-96 is a stroked motor and likes running at a little higher RPM . Just my 2 cents on this, been riding Harleys 30+ years.
On my '10 WG if I shift to sixth at anything less than 70 I get alot of shudder and vibes. I'd think perhaps the shift points are wrong in the manual and you should go by feel.
So going to work this morning, no vibrations what so ever, but last night when I return home from work the same vibrations. The day I started this post the vibs were very bad and the reason for the start of the post. I don't understand why it is "hit or miss" with the vibrations. Same tank of gas, temp about 10 degrees cooler this morning, riding style same. I'll check back in tonight when I get home. Thanks to all the help!
dude i shift out of third at 60 idk what yall are doing but i ride it like i stole it lol... but if im taking it easy on occasion i dont hit 6'th unless im going straight at about 70 75 think about it the 6th gear has not been around that damn long id try to use my lower gears untill it sounds like you need to shift or buy a tach
