I was convinced it was a weak compensator spring pack allowing the torque pulses through that it was supposed to absorb...
OP--It's the firing impulses that you're feeling. Quit lugging your engine and you'll discover that the "problem" has disappeared.

the shift recommendations for the dyna in the book are for break in period. I hope it turns out the compensator is the problem . chasing down problems can be a bitch. BTW you want to ride your engine hard once in awhile or you will get more carbon build up and it will run like crap. Riding the bike too easy all the time is not good for the motor. Good luck I hope it turns out to be a simple fix for you.

I've read that when the pressed-together crankshaft in the twin cam engines "scissors" (slips on the crank pin) it can cause the vibrations that people are describing in this thread. The way to check it is to check the runout on the camshaft side of the crank.

The MOCO has done nothing to address this problem and they hate to warranty it because of the cost. They increase the runout spec every year in an attempt to avoid warranty claims. It's up to 012" this year - which is absolutely ridiculous for an acceptable amount of crankshaft runout in any engine - plus, they just install another crankshaft that is very likely to develop the same problem again later, after the warranty has expired.

There are welded aftermarket cranks that will permanently fix it but, naturally, the MOCO won't let their dealers install one under warranty.
