Suggestions please. At 40mph in 4th gear there appears to be a vibration. When I pull in the clutch it goes away.In 3rd gear, higher rpm, no vibration.Being fairly new to H-D, is this just normal vibration or could there be a problem with transmission, engine or what? 2005 flhrci 4000 miles.
Prob normal, the lower the rpm and the higher the gear you will notice more of a vibration at slower speeds. You'll prob notice some vibrations through the handle bars as your slowing down and downshifting at a low rpm. My vote is normal because what your describing sounds like mine and this is my first harley too.
By shuttering and the vibrations your engine is telling you that you are lugging it in 4th gear at 40mph. You should be in 3rd. You even stated that in 3rd gear, at a higher rpm there is no vibration.
You will get the shuttering and vibration in any gear where your speed and rpm are to low for that particular gear. Lugging is the worst thing you can do to a harley motor. Higher rpms will not hurt your motor.
