Default SERIOUSLY - How much vibration??

First off: no replies that say "go buy a metric...blah, blah, blah...."

Seriously, how much is a dyna bob supposed to vibrate?

How do you know if your vibrations are normal, or attributed to faulty motor mounts, or the engine running too lean, or the friggin' gear ratios are justplain too low....?

???

I am feeling vibrations in the foot pegs (both) when the bike is in 3rd gear, but bordering on being in 2nd. In other words, I can't seem to find a happy medium (2nd or 3rd gear) for in-traffic riding at around 30-35 mph.

At 30 mph in 3rd gear, it feels as if I am in too high a gear, and the lower the rpm's, the worse the vibrations become in the footpegs. Downshifting into 2nd cures this, butspeeding up just a few more mph, makes it seem like I should shift back into 3rd again...
and then slowing down just a few more mph makes it vibrate my fillings until I downshift back into 2nd...and on and on...
...Help....?[]

Mine typically only vibrates that noticibly at idle. I will say your ride sounds like it vibrates a little more than normal. If you're doing "parade style" 25-35 riding zones it's going to run worse. It will vibrate worse, and give you a bit more of a beating when you try to ease it into the gears. Let the clutch out a little faster - or as they would say in the MSF locally, don't feather so lightly through your friction zone.

Mine's pretty smooth but if I find it running a bit hot/lean I might pull the choke out a little.

If it's annoying then it's a problem. If it's a relaxing vibration then ride it

35 mph just plain sucks on my bike too. It's that one spot were you're either revin' or luggin' It's just the nature of the bike. I'm no authority but, from what I read on here the only good solution is the Thundermax module with Auto-tune. I can live with it but I'm hopin that market forces will bring the cost of a wide band sensor system down to a more reasonable level in the future. I knew when I bought a Dyna that there was gona be some vibration so I'm really not that worried about it. Heck, just ride it like ya stole it and you won't notice it anymore. Seriously, the bike's too lean.

If the vib seems to settle-in at around 2,000 RPM and will run there with no surge or lag, you're in good shape.

Do you have stock footpegs, or billet ones? I put billet pegs on my 98 FXD, and noticed more vibration through my boots right away. that's the tradeoff for fancy pegs.

BTW, my 98 doesn't like 30 mph either -- but it sure likes 65!

My 07 WG vibrates more than I remember my 99 ever did. It seems worst in the same range you mentioned, 3rd gear. What's worse is that I seem to have a wobble to match. The front end wobbles in concert with the engine vibration. The only cure I've found so far is high rpm's. I wind up accelerating harder than I want to just to avoid the aggrivation. Dyna's are shaking SOB's and I knew that going in. I'll keep tinkering with it until I get it right. All HD's are a box of chocolates, you never know what you'll have to work on but rest assured, you'll have to work on something if you want it right.

Well, I'm going to say it anyway. Go buy a metric. It's a Harley you're going to get some vibes. It's supposed to be that way. The pussification continues...
