My clunk wound up being the front tank mounting bolt was loose. It allowed the tank to bounce on the bolt.

Found it by pulling up on the tank and it moved.
yep did a search today on clunk i noticed today after 20700k miles. This I am hoping was my problem also.If its there its faint now over bumps.I checked moter mnts they were fine.I do have 1 question tho on the top stabalizer link.seems like looking at it from the ac side nI have maybe half ich threads there cant see any above it threads but there seems to be quite a gap between the 2 pieces where they go together .I have never looked before this if thats normal.Cant get a wrench in there to check the nut unless I was to pull the tank.I am hoping all it was the front bolt not very tight on the tank.So far it seems way better.Thought ID just revive this thread Thanks This brd has good info.

Well I finally solved the "front end" clunking I was getting sometimes when I went over a railroad track or a good bump in the road. It didn't do it every time which made it even harder to find. I tried everything I had read about a front-end clunk. The dealer checked the fall-away. It was right on. The stem nut was inspected and re-torqued. The forks were inspected and the fork oil was re-serviced. Still the occassional clunk. The front caliper was re-torqued and the disc mount bolts were inspected. The noise sounded like it was coming from the lower triple tree area. I took the bike to a local indy. He asked what all had been done as he inspected all the footpegs to see if they had play in them and then he took it for a ride. When he came back, I asked if he heard it and he said he had. Then he jacked it up and retracted the jiffy stand. He took his fist and hit the jiffy stand between the pivot and the end. We heard a noise. He repositioned the rubber bumper on the frame where the stand rests when retracted. He hit it again. No noise. I took it for a ride over tracks and bumps. No noise. The stand was resting on the rubber pad, it just wasn't where it needed to be. He charged me $10! I'm dropping off a case of beer today.
This is a beautiful story. I love a happy ending.

First law of anything, start with the simpe stuff and move on. Glad it worked out for you. My rubber bumper had been pulled off when I came into my garage a little too hot and bumped it, repositioned it, good as new.

When I get home I'm going to check mine. It has been doing that weird front end clunk since the day I bought it. If you are correct about the jiffy stand...I'll buy you a case of beer.

TOWJAM I had the same exact problem you had when going over a bump or getting on the front brake. Tighten the steering head bolt should solve the problem. Great Post Jerry very informative and Im sure it is gonna help many of the Dynas here.
Thanks Ken

that is a old problem that has been diagnosed. There is still on some glides of the clunking of the front end. The rubber usually moves when putting on a jack

Thanks so much. . .I'd about gone insane trying to figure out what was causing this noise. . .just took a look at jiffy stand and boom, there it was. Problem solved and I'll have two fists in the wind in about 5 minutes. . .

Thanks, this forum is AMAZING.

Ty
