Default Installing a Mustang Vintage Solo Wide on a Fatbob?

Hey guys,

Just received the seat that I bought off the forums from BobsClassic and it looks great and feels comfy.

However, I haven't bolted it down and it didn't include any hardware (e.g., bolts, stickpads, brackets, etc.)

I read on Mustang's site that these are necessary for the install, but their specific 09+ Fatbob instructions are "being revised" and not available for DL.

Am I correct in my intent to call them to buy a set of install accessories (if they will sell it to me)?

Or, is there another way?

TIA!

The solo instructions for the '04-05 have pretty much got it covered.

http://www.mustangseats.com/ShowPage.aspx?intPageID=41

Remove the plastic plug (with HD logo) under your stock seat and install fender/seat nut kit 59768-97 (from any HD dealer). If you use a plastic tie wrap (cable tie) about 10" long and feed it through the nut it is pretty easy to get it into the hole so you can install the clip. The seat bolts are 1/4-20 which you can get pretty much anywhere or the HD part is 2952A.

Hope it helps.

Just move the seat nut from it's current position to the one closer to the tank...mount seat. Install screw. Ride.

I've had 6 new Mustang solo seats over the last 3 years, all of them came with a mounting set and a peace of plastic tie strap.

SC is right ... you only need the extra nut if you want to install a pillon or fender bib.

Thanks guys. I thought that might be it, but it seems like there's about 1/2" gap between where the nut would end and the bracket begins, whereas the stock seat fits flush with the metal bracket that's attached.

I had to give mine a pretty good shove to get it to line up with the new fender nut location. You may have to bend the nose tab slightly to allow it to slide ahead further ... just go a little at a time and then test fit.

There should be rubber bumpers on the bottom of the seat. If these are dry they will grab hold and stick to the frame. Put a little liquid dish soap on the rubber and put the seat into place. If it doesn't want to slide freely you will have to double up your fist and hit the seat (with the side of your fist on the part of the seat where you sit) moving it forward. When you hit the seat it will cause the bumpers to move slightly and after a few hits the seat should slide into place and you can bolt it down. It may help if you have an extra set of hands to push forward on the back of the seat while you hit it. Use liquid dish soap so it will wash away the next time you wash the bike.

Yeah I had that rather large gap too, I put the bike in 1st gear and pushed the seat forward, it took quite a bit of effort to get the bracket to line up. I had to get my wife to bolt it down while I was doing that, it was a 2 person operation. I thought something was wrong at first, but that is just the way it is.

My mustang seat came with a zip tie and maybe something else, but I had to move the hardware from the rear hole in the fender to the more forward one.

The seat gets more comfortable every time I ride.
