Fuel Management on 08 FXD
On this fourm I routinly see PCV's sold for $150 or so.. and said to be simple do it yourself item for the fuel management issue. I also read about a simple stage 1 download from H dealers for about the same money. So I'm now confused a bit. Can someone help clarifiy what I need in terms of fuel management stuff for the additon of Heavy breather intake?
Thanks in advance....
But you should know this;
The stock ECM will make adjustment to accommodate your A/C and exhaust upgrades.
The AFR is controlled by what the O2 sensors read and they will keep it at about 14.7:1 as long as your in closed loop,95% of your riding time.
Get a copy of the Fall 2006 Enthusiast Magazine published by Harley-Davidson. H-D states in an article in this magazine that the Dephi equipped TC96 closed loop ECM bikes to not need remapping with exhaust and air cleaner upgrades. http://www.tuneyourharley.com/forum/...50656de937569f
Lots of good information on that forum and they will answer your questions.

If you want to get the most performance and street drivability out of the cash you put into pipes and air filter, just get a TTS tuning kit and be done with it.
There is also a EFI forum here and one over on Harley tech talk that is quite informative.

Suggesting an option like the TTS (and I've read the manual) doesn't seem like a good option for Elk. It's a lot of darn work to get that thing tuned.
Heck, it doesn't sound like a good option for anyone wanting to 'self-tune'. If the cost equalled 'auto-tune' then I can see but the user is the one doing the tuning or paying someone to tune it. So, $500+ for the TTS plus another $300 or so for dyno-tuning. $800 for a tuned bike that you could have gotten for about half that. I mean, to tune it, it sounds like you have to ride around with your laptop in the saddlebag while it collects data to adjust the map that you have to manually download to the ecm.

UH if you tune it yourself you don't need dyno tuning...hello? The TTS comes with Vtune software...but any self tuning is only for those who can read and understand the directions and have a desire to tune their bike. If you are not a wrencher at heart get a dyno tune. I bought a dyno map from Latus HD for my sert for $50...it runs like a raped ape and gets great mileage.
Once you ride a correctly dyno tuned TC EFI Harley you will never be satisfied with a stock Harley.

I was going to point this out in my initial response....
the OP is asking about different fuel management systems because he doesn't know about them. Having someone suggest an option that requires a lot of work to tune it yourself doesn't sound like a good option for the OP. And, really..without a dyno how can you truly know if you have got the bike tuned properly? Does all the software modules include a version of the winpep software that will show you the afr in real-time? No. I read the TTS manual. You set up the afr based on calculations but that doesn't mean you will hit it right on the nose.
If the guy said "hey, I've built 35 v-twins bla bla bla..." we could then deduce he has half a clue and probably be able to work the TTS software.

Technically, you don't 'need' a tuner because HD has the technology in their ECM to self-adjust blah, blah, blah.
Your bike will run lean (hot) and when you get caught in stop-and-go traffic, you'll notice it right away.
The dealer download is a waste of $$$
So was the Vance & Hines fuelpak I installed.
I went with the PCV from FuelMoto and the bike has never ran better. The PCV new is $299 + shipping. If you can get a used one for $150, get it and have a reputable dyno tuner tweak it for ya and you'll be worlds & money ahead of most of us.
