With K&N. Bought a filter kit for the dyna, and the fit and finish certainly leaves a bit to be desired. Not only that, but for the money, it looks like they could have included a ten cent gasket, instead of making you use the one off the old assembly. I couldn't get the damned thing off without tearing it all to pieces, so now the bikes down till I can run to chattanooga for a replacement.
Pretty pitiful if you ask me. Can't include a ten cent gasket in a 130 dollar air cleaner kit[:'(][:'(]
The bottom of the filter acts as a gasket (its rubber) as it is tightened against the backing plate. Yes? No? That's how mine is.
Or do you mean the one you stick on 'top' (between the filter and the cover)? I bought the HD-0800 filter separate and it came with one in the box for me to use or not. I used it with the Skull insert only, leaving the filter element exposed...
I have the K&N full flow, also.
They do have you use the old gasket, but I didn't have a problem getting mine off.
I think you are right. For that kind of money K&N should give you a gasket.
call K&N ask them to send the gasket...I had very good luck with their customer service people....the worst they can do is say no and you are no worse off. Maybe they think it is reusable...Yes, I have the full flow kit (RK3909)on mine also.
