I was worried because I traded in a Street glide for the Street Bob and that was touring heaven, but the Bob was very enjoyable. No regrets.
Ok - I realize I'm late to the thread party but I have to ask... With the HD windshield, did you have any problem with buffeting? I wear a fullface and have NEVER been able to use a HD windshield on any Dyna I've owned (Low Rider, Fat Bob) without severe buffeting at highway speeds. It's gotten to the point where I've eliminated using a shield altogether since fighting the wind is preferable to getting headaches and double vision from the buffeting.

You have probably been adjusting the w/s too high. The top should be well below your normal line of sight. There's no need to fight the wind.

With the Harley's QD windshields, you only have about 2" height adjustment. I've owned 6 Dynas and all of them, I've experimented with different heights and even different size windshields and I never was able to eliminate the highway buffeting to the point where I was comfortable. Granted, there's more to it than just windshield height - the fact that I wear a full face and the lack of lower wind deflectors are contributing factors. Anyway, I don't want to hijack the thread (any more than I have).

ida know.... i have a compact windshield and a half helmet and i have never had headaches or double vision from the buffeting. not to mention the top of the shield when it is mounted high is just BARELY above my center of sight. mounted low it is just BARELY below it. i have to either sit up perfectly straight or slouch to get around it. but other than that i am glad i have it when i ride to michigan from where ever i am stationed. always a fun ride!

Hey Towjam. I went through the same challenge as you did and could never get rid of the buffeting and I certainly didn't want a huge windshield on the front of my '01 Wide Glide. I also wear a full face helmet and after much research, I found out about a Flyscreen and that solved my problem. I wasn't about to go on any long trips with the air pressure on my chest, that you get with nothing on the front and I couldn't handle the buffeting either. So I went looking for something that would get the airflow off my chest and below my helmet, so the helmet was in clean air. The Flyscreen solved the problem. Like all windshields, it requires a little bit of adjusting to get it just right. After installing it, there was no problem on my 4600 mile trip in 17 days with normal cruise at around 75mph.
There is a Flyscreen just listed on this forum today, if you are interested and the price is excellent.

Here is my bike with the Flyscreen on it.

Here's another one on the ride. A little loaded up, but it rode beautifully.

No, you won't entirely eliminate it under all conditions. There will occasionally be some combination of wind direction and strength that can cause buffeting. I am using a 3/4 helmet w/ flip-up shield. My bike has no wind deflectors--just the w/s, as shown.
