I've seen articles about riding in BC...... suppose to be fabulous scenery. Someday would love to tour that area......ride from Ontario all the way out to the coast. That's IF THE FRIGGING WEATHER WILL COOPERATE. Due to medical conditions, we had to put the bike into storage in early Sept last year. Got them out of Storage the end of April the weather has been LOUSY......RAIN, WIND AND COLD ever since. We are only able to ride weekend. Last weekend it poured with 30mph gusty winds. This weekend the HIGH on Saturday is 43.... LOW's in the upper 20's with rain and possible snow flurries. THIS IS HORSE PUCKY!!!
This thread has me out in the garage evaluating my seating position and handle bars on my superglide. Up until now, I've done a maxof about 275 miles on the stock handlebars and a wide mustang solo seat. To ge the use out of my backrest, I need to raise my grip about 3" and pull back about 1.5". Looks like some mini apes are in order. I've seen enough SG with these bars and the do look really nice. Big decision is do I do a low buck stainless Bob take off with black cables or spring for the new 1-1/4" chrome bars and nice cables to go with---- then you know what that means, everything else goes chrome on the bars $$$$$. Where does it all stop? Like a runaway train.
I'd opt for the Chrome 1 1/4" handlebars, full chrome controls & switches, chrome hand levers and add some diamondbacks.....but that's me. Oh, and dont forget part number 68185-00 the Chrome turn signal swivel assembly mounting brackets to complete it all up there.......... but that's just my opinion
The Dyna is a good all rounder..no problem touring..Went from Sweden all round Germany last year..intend on doing the same this year..and with passenger.
Love my dyna and think it is a very versatile bike able to handle (especially with upgrades) all conditions well. As for long rides, I can ride it all day.
Can't say it is as good for long trips as the touring models though. These models are designed for that. Dynas are awesome cruisers and a lot of fun. Love riding it hard, handles twisties well, but in terms of racking up the miles on long trips I think it understandably comes up short vs the touring bikes for a bunch of reasons.
1) Far less protection against wind and rain
2) Less range due to a smaller tank
3) No radio
4) No cruise control
5) Better storage options on the touring bikes
This is no way a knock on the dyna's. I think it is HD's best all around bike.

I couldn't disagree more.
1, 3, 4, and 5 are all easily remedied. You can read threads in the Dyna forum every day that address those items.
#2 is a non-issue for me personally as I can never out-ride my gas tank on long trips. I'm ready to stretch my legs before my tank runs dry.
