Default Baker IPB in 06 Dyna

I am going to tear the primary down to tack weld the stator bolt heads and while I'm in there change to IPB for the Baker High Torque bearing. (OEM one went at 10,000 miles and have 16000 miles now with no noise. Haven't inspected it yet though.)

I see the Baker is a deep V ball bearing and shielded.

Do you leave the shields on i.e.does it get lubed OK with these on?

Anyone got lots of miles on the Baker in the 06 Dyna with no probs?

It's a sealed bearing,leave them on. I have this bearing with no problems.

I got my bearing off of ebay so I am not positive it is a real Baker bearing. It had metal shields with small slots for oiling. It is working fine.

A bit of paranoia creeping in. Reassurance needed. Thanks.

Good thing with Harleys is that they are simple to work on. All apart in less than one hour. Unfortunately the gaskets haven't turned up yet.

I now see that the Baker bearing is 52mm OD, 15mm W, 25mm ID but honed slightly to slip fit over the 25mm mainshaft.

Question is, what's to stop the mainshaft spinning in the bearing race. Is it best locktited or would that make it impossible to get apart again.

BTW, the rotor bolts will be welded and I'm fitting the later type chain tensioner. I hope that's the end of the crap for a bit.
