Question When to Re-Torque

Just changed my Exhaust Gaskets today on the bob. Almost made a fatal mistake when torquing the flange bolts, the book was in Inch Pounds and my Torque Wrench is Foot Pounds. Glad I caught that on the first bolt, before snapping one. Anyway Bike runs way better now no more "snap crackle pop" Thank God.
So my question, how many miles till I need to re-torque the flange bolts?

As a general rule I check all the basic bolts when I do my regular maintenance and oil changes. So every 5000 miles.

Yeah, but I thought with new gaskets, it would need to be done sooner specially since the gaskets are made to crush. IDK could be wrong

After a new install check them after your first ride, once it has cooled, then regular maintenance.

Yup. Go through a heat/cool cycle then check the torque. If you're an ****-retentive like me, you might do that the first 2-3 times you ride. After that, if they haven't moved they aren't going to. The key isn't miles, it's the heat/cool (expansion/contraction) cycles that matter.

And kudos for being conscientious enough to think about this.

go for a good ride or two, let her heat up, then when home cold, give the nuts a twist just for the hell of it. You will be suprised.

When I installed the Big Rad. I did not change the gaskets. I was experiencing popping on decel, even though I have a fuel pak. I knew I was not running lean, since I had the bike dyno'd and sent the results to vance and hines to have a custom map made for my bike, so the next likely culprit is a exhaust or intake leak. Being I knew that I did not change the exhaust gaskets when I changed pipes I choose to try that first. To my pleasure I was right and the problem is fixed.
