Forward controls are not for you. I just got mine put on me Street Bob, not saying you can't do it....but you'd be much better off paying to let someone that knows how take care of it.
The whole primary has to be removed and reinstalled. Let a shop do it, you've been enlightened.
I put mine on myself. I would recommend following the directions and pulling the primary. It was a little more than I thought it would be, but it can be done.
You don't need to remove the primary. You can cut the mid shifter lever and slide it out.
where do you cut at? I just put a set on my fxdx and didnt relize that until I was in to it. I thought it just went on the lever kind of like a sporty. for the time i just put a piece of saftey wire on the lever and a bolt until I could pull the whole unit.

behind the primary. I attached a hacksaw blade to a jig saw to speed up the process and accessed it from the bottom. Once its cut it slides right out saving yourself a huge amount of time, effort, and chance of messing something up by getting into the primary. Only draw back is you'd need a new lever if you decided to go back to mids. I left mine in there for a while before deciding to cut it.
Anyone with pictures or a walk-through? It would be appreciated. I'm waiting for the dealer to call and tell me my forwards are in. I'm def. doing the work myself. I was just going to put the little cover piece over the spline for now. What do you do about the hole in the inner primary cover where the lever went through?
