Question Making a custom fender - spacing issues

hello all.

I bought some cheaper fenders and am making my own.. I have it all cut up and welded but need some info on spacing issues.

this saturday i'm going to fit it to my bike... I ride 2 up sometimes, and want to make sure that when wifey sits on the bike there is no rubbing..

how do I go about spacing this to ensure there is no rubbing on the tire..
I have seen some threads which state you should put a 1" tube on the tire, but does this consider 2 up ridering? If not, what should I use?

also, any advice on ensuring the fender is level would be appreciated... or the best way to mount it, as I'm making the holes to mount this weekend.

I will do a write-up and stuff when I get it all completed... and it's going to be siiiccckk...

thanks in advance.

J

basicly you need to figure how much travel yo have in your suspension and how much sag you get with weight on the bike. this will give you your lowerst number. what you planning on making? why would you slam a rear fender? you slam the suspension no the fender, only on hard tails do you slam a rear fender

If you know the travle length of your shocks then use a spacer on top of the tire of that thickness.
Check the radius of the fender to the wheel.
Check the fit of the seat.
Check the clearance of the master cyclinder, belt guard and above the right side passanger foot peg.

Don't know what fenders you used or how you got to where you're at, but...
If you started with Dyna fenders the stock mounting holes should be your guide for mounting the fender.

Thats what used to make mine. As I was mocking it up I realized the the stock seat was made for where the stock fender is mounted to the frame... raising the fender too high may effect the way the seat fits.
I planed for the suspension drop by cutting the fender to the bottom of the fender frame strut to clear the master cyclinder and @ 1.5" above the belt guard.

i am not slamming the fender... the question is simply how much of a spacer do I need to put between the tire and the fender to ensure that 2 up riding is gonna be ok. how do I see how much travel length is in my shocks.. I have to measure have us both sit on the bike and measure again? is there another method... ie... a measurement that should be ok? won't see wifey until Sunday, and want to get this done on Sat. all info appreciated
