Like these? That's why I'm looking phor some black levers.
You'll get the first set Phreak! You've been a great friend/customer in these posts. I think I've still got your address around here somewhere.
Jackyl, I didn't mean that in a bad tone, sorry if I came across the wrong way. I was just providing information.
Thanks man. Whenever your ready, let me know, and I'll get you out a check.
I've heard of people powdercoating chrome parts but I am not sure about the longevity seeing as how it's over chrome and not the base metal.
Figures...I finally come up with an idea for the bike that isn't super expensive and then reality slashes it apart. Better to get it black pc from the start than worry about potentially having to redo everything later on. Looks like I'll be sticking to the stock apes until I can find something else workable.
You should be able to bead blast the bars enough to get the powder coat to hold. I think I remember hearing somewhere of a chemical process to remove the chrome too.
I put the black levers on immediately after getting my bike (Actually, the dealer was supposed to do it, but that's a long story).
I love people coming up with ideas and I don't want to sound at all like a "downer" here, just sharing my opinion. I liked the HD black levers because they look exactly like the switch housings and the lever hinge brackets. I also switched to the black mirrors and ditto . . . they all match perfectly and that was important to me.
I *think* black anodizing dyes tend to fade to one color or another in sunlight. I'm not sure on that, but when I first got my bike I looked into home anodizing kits so I could tinker with small parts. Professional anodizers may more options for dyes and sealers.
Kpreese, you are absolutely correct on the soft anodizing fading in the sunlight but the hard ano last an extremely long time in direct sunlight. We haven't done any time tests but I've seen side by side comparisons of parts that got alot of sunlight and after 1000 hours the hard ano did not fade at all, whereas the soft ano parts were about half way to losing all their color and they were getting chalky. So you got that one right.
And you're right on the color matching also, they will not be an exact match but they will be close. If they were to be an exact match and last as long as the HD ones I'll have to duplicate their process which I do not have access to.
