Default Lowering 06 Wide Glide

I have an 06 Wide glide that I want to lower the rear. The question I have is how far to go without having problems. I was thinking 2 inches but was told don't go more than 1.5 inches. What are y'alls thoughts.

1.5" would get you to about an 11" shock. Actual stock shock is 12.6" e to e. Know that you will compromise some of the comfort (harsher ride) with the shorter shock.

I would listen to the 1.5" rule. You do need to maintain some clearance between tire and fender.

Is this for looks, or function?

Looks.
I might add I do ride 2 up once in a while.

If it were me, I would also lower the front the same amount to keep it symmetrical.

Since shocks aren't a permanent mod, if you don't like it put the stock shocks back on. Not that hard to do.

HEY cat, I lowered my SB with 11" progressive. Yes the ride is a bit firmer but thats ok with me. I think the question you need to think about is how much is the combined weight of the both of you. Our combined weight is about 340, and i ride with the spring in the softest setting. Still seldom bottom out, ya just got to watch for the pot holes and railroad tracks.

Hope this helps ya

I have an 07 Wide Glide and I lowered the rear 1.5" and put on a 180 tire, also lowered the front 2". I ride 2-up sometimes but I have to set the shocks to their stiffist setting. For me its looks over comfort I guess. All in all its not that bad.

Thanks for all the input. I want to lower the rear to get the fender to follow the line of the tire better. For some reason the look of the fender showing to much of the tire really bugs me. I guess Its one of those weird things that bothers me.

Or you could...

Get a bigger tire!

That would suit your asthetic needs and still keep you in a trendy style with the larger tire look that has come from the chopper scene, (Just a thought). You might even broaden your bikes capacity by having more air to support the weight, (I'd eat more french fries if I did this).

If your undecided, try lowering blocks. They are around $60 bucks and can lower the bike 1 or 1 1/2 inches depending on the device you order. Stiffen the shocks up a notch or two once installed and your all set. If you don't like the bike lowered, you can resell them on ebay and your out only a few sheckles. If you LOVE the lowered idea you can keep them or resell and buy a set of shocks in the length you determine best works on your bike based on your experience with the blocks. Just another option.

i have an 06 wide glide and used the 1.75" lowering blocks. looks great, rides good too! if anything, it handles a little better now. i left the front alone, and just lowered the rear. check out a write i did on here: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/gener...ide-glide.html
