now i'm confused. everyone keeps telling him to "man up" and "grow a pair" and that windshields are for women and then turn around and tell him to get a full face?? really?? well i am a woman and i have a windshield and i can't stand a full face. how are you supposed to feel the wind on your face with a full face on? a windshield lets you feel the wind but blocks most of the bugs and other crap flying around that hurts like hell when it hits your face at 50, 60, 70, or however fast you're going. plus its fun to ride past the people without windshields right after they get splattered with a big juicy bug right in the face while you point and laugh!
Very well put my beautiful wife! And the people shes talking about riding past with no windshields and getting spattered by big ole bugs is me!!! She gets a big kick out of it! But i do agree with her. I dont run a windshield, and its not cause im a "man", i just flat out dont want one, and think one would look ugly as hell on my bike. (plus i run a cafe fairing) Do i wish somedays i had one while its pouring down rain? oh hell yeah. But i have made my choice, and i live with that and love it that way. And yes, i wish my face had one of those windshield tear-offs like in nascar so i could peel off the bugs sometimes!! but oh well!

I'm proud for you; To have mama along side would be great but my wife would rather ride with me even though I offered to get her one of her own. I love that she's with me but would rather have her along side. You are a lucky man---jack
Man up... your on a motorcycle! I will recommend something even bettter than a windshield... it's only 3-5 dollars and you won't believe it will work, but I bet it will....some earplugs from say CVS. Cheap reusable kind. With the wind noise gone, it completely changes the feel of the ride at higher speeds. Of course if you have a helmet blocking the ears good(full face or 3/4 even), this may not work.
To all you guys suggesting man up and go sans windshield to keep your bike looking pretty, please let me know when you are going to ride by so I can gaze in admiration of how cool you look! Make sure you got no shirt on, a old scrufty leather vest that accents your skull and dagger tattoos Make sure there is no polish on your engineers boots and that the oil on your Levi's is at least 1/8th inch thick. Arch your back a tad and look loose in the saddle as you scream by me with a weed hanging out of your mouth. If your pony tail don't trail in the wind behind your helmet then don't bother gracing my street with your presence! I'm looking to only see the tough guys.
Give it time, you will get used to the wind and may actually like the experience of riding a motorcycle. But it's YOUR bike so do what YOU want.
It's supposed to be fun, if you are uncomfortable, it's not fun.

That's hilarious..... and describes some attitudes around here to a T.
Hello all 2009 fxdl, first bike ever. Once on highway anything 50 mph or more feels like I'm going to get blown off the bike. Freinds say get used to it and man up.
Will a windsheild change this?
Thanks for any help, Paul
This is interesting....
The OP opened the can of worms by asking if he should get a windshield or "man up". Most of the responses are only using what the OP gave as an option.
His post did make it seem like he was scared of the wind at 50mph or above. You either get used to it or you don't ride.
I remember when I first got my permit. I was tooling around my town and then I just made the turn to hit the highway. Freaked me out a little but after the first five minutes, I got used to it. That was circa '92.

That's not the case at all. He asked if a windshield would change how he feels on the highway.
He didn't ask if he should get used to or it man up. Those were not his "options"... those were recollections of his friend's comments.
Apparently his friends were only able to offer two type of advice like most of the guys here: 1) get used to it, or 2) man up. He came here for other options, such as whether or not windshields help.
