I've never done one, but I wouldn't be shocked if you had to remove BOTH shocks to get new shock(s) back on.

Just a WAG.
the shocks wont go flying through the air...lol... The spring is compressed and held into place in the shock. The bike has weight on the shocks. It's called sag, 11" shocks don't have much sag. I never tried taking them off without lifting the sag off the shocks first. Can it be done, sure some have done it, it does make it much more difficult. In reality it might be best to lift the bike weight off the shock. This can be done on the stand with a car jack under the rear of the frame. Just don't lift the tire off the ground.

You can remove 1 at a time.
Progressive also sells parts, the Replacement Cartridge for the 11" is $88.
But you need the tool to disassemble the shock another $50 or have a shop swap it out.
I just ordered a new set. some things are better replaced in pairs.
I did see them on Ebay for $210 a pr free shipping

Kind of strange I ask a relatively simple question and get a bunch of answers that were far from accurate. There were a couple of good responses and thanks for those. The job is done and it was very simple. No the shocks did not come flying out and hit me in the head. I simply hooked a winch to the rafter on my gargage and to the frame of the bike, then took each side off with no pressure again very simple.

Least you raised the bike, even if you did it in a bizarre fashion.

Hey I dont mean to sound disrespectful, I think the forum is awsome and have met some great people with solid advice. I was thinking it was no big deal having already done it with my sporty, but just wasn't sure with the Dyna. Then after reading the post I got a bit paranoid for a moment...just a moment. That said, it did lead to a bit of creative thinking when I decided to remove both at once.."skyhook". I most likely will order a new set off ebay rather than wait for the progressive inspection. Thanks Guys and special thanks to "Bob".

Wait a second...instead of just lifting your bike off the ground just a few inches, you hooked up a winch, I'm assuming hanging from the ceiling somehow. Wow, you went way overboard on that.

I hope it was a heavy duty warn winch. We all know how tough those progressive 11's can be.

Thanks long hair, really appreciate your sarcasm. I didnt have a jack, had to improvise. It was attatched to the rafter as I stated previously.
