Carbon buildup can raise your compression to the point of pinging under a load.

We have 98 available! But I vaguely recall we use a different octane rating system to the US. The rest of the world often does things different to.....

You are lugging it!

Unless you don't mind making expensive repairs, learn new riding technique. 6th gear is an overdrive; on my '09 Dyna it is useful for level interstate speeds above 65MPH.

Check the wiring harness for the rear injector, both for that matter. The wires get stressed and break causing an intermittent open. You said you were climbing a hill which could be pulling on the wire so if the injector is not firing it could lean out that cylinder causing a ping or lugging the engine because the cylinder isn't firing at all and then turning with the power coming back makes me think the wire may have come back in contact.

+1 on the lugging...no 6th gear under 65mph. You should be cruising at NO LESS than 2300 rpm. I usually cruise at 2500-2800 which is the sweet spot for my TC88. At 2500 rpm in 6th gear I am at 70mph and at that speed any incline requires 5th gear.
